"Searchlight", Only Son's second album, finds songwriter Jack Dishel blasting off in search of new lands. Over the course of twelve songs (thirteen if you find the hidden treasure) we're taken on a world tour of thoughts and moods; there are dreamy songs, trash rockers, sci-fi lullabies, gypsy warnings and philosophical stompers. Each song is a mini-epic - but lucky for us, our tour guide loves pop. With thoughtful lyrics, intricately fun arrangements and choruses that are catchy as hell, "Searchlight" is a record we're lucky to find. Guest musicians include members of The Strokes, Little Joy, Of Montreal, Robbers On High Street and Regina Spektor.
Digital download of Searchlight includes bonus track "Kick
'Em Out" featuring Fabrizio Moretti (The Strokes/LIttle Joy) and Binki Shapiro (Little Joy)! Not available anywhere else! And bonus download of the guitar chords to each song.
Immediate download of 13 track album in your choice of 320k mp3, FLAC, or just about any other format you could possibly desire.

about
"Searchlight" was co-produced and mixed by Jack's lifelong friend and mentor, Eddie "Pull" Frente of the band kHz. Their unlikely friendship began when Jack was 12 and Eddie was 20, living two houses away from one another in the suburbs. "I was taking piano lessons from Eddie's mom and not practicing very much, " Dishel laughs. "I was way more interested in what he was doing up there in his studio...I would hear these dance beats thumping through the ceiling and want to run up there so bad! Sometimes he'd let me hang out during recording sessions and I would just sit there and watch him make music. It was an amazing process to have access to at such a young age. We grew up in a mostly blue collar town with no artists around - so it was really important for me to see that it was possible to make music yourself. And he even lived on the same street as me! That made it feel attainable." Jack's visits upstairs never stopped, and it was there that he picked up a guitar for the first time.
Growing to be more like brothers than friends over time, Dishel and Frente's friendship has spanned over twenty years - the last two of which they spent collaborating on "Searchlight". On the making of the album, Dishel explains, "Most of the time I was in the studio alone, writing as I recorded. We were actually only in the same room a handful of times - but we had conversations almost every day. We talked about sound and arrangement and the best ways to make songs come to life. I would send Eddie everything as I did it and he would give me advice and guide me through the whole process. Day by day, week by week, month by month. I've learned a tremendous amount from him. He's an amazing producer and mix engineer - I'm very lucky to have been able to make a record with him. It feels like we built a little monument together." In addition to his work on the album, Frente directed the darkly surreal video for the title track, due out soon.
